The Madawaska Art Shop buildings date back to the
turn of the 19th century. The building on the left in the drawing was
at one time (1880) a bank, and the vault, with its' two foot thick
concrete and stone walls is one of seventeen rooms in the Madawaska
Art Shop. The building next to it was known as the Buckley General
Store, which functioned as a thriving business and a home for five
generations of Buckleys. Both buildings and the link total nearly
10,000 sq. ft of space. The Madawaska Art Shop opened for business in the Bank Building in the late 1960's. It flourished as a result of its' unique offerings and beautiful art. In the late 1970's, the General Store Building was purchased and a large enclosed 'link' was constructed to connect the two heritage buildings and permit customers to travel freely between the buildings and its' many displays. Today, the 17 rooms of the Madawaska Art Shop includes a six room Art Gallery; beautiful giftware and home decor, stained and blown glass; hand-crafted pottery and glassware; wooden burls; statuary; exotic African Rosewood furniture; amazing Teak Root furniture; solid Pine sleigh beds; and exquisite Rattan furniture including dining room sets, sofas, love-seats, gliders, rockers, and chaise loungers. Don't miss the Madawaska Art Shop, just 15 minutes north of Bancroft at Hwy 62N and Hwy 127 in the town of Maynooth. ... 'expect the unexpected! |
